Commission Information

Knitting Commissions

Commissions are open again.

Commission for knitted clothes, accessories and toys, needle felted art or patches or embroidered work.

All knitted items are handknit by Ruth and finished off by me, Emma. I sew things up and embroider details and occasionally felt things on them. I do the needle felting and embroidery.

We have experience making gorgeous toys, baby clothes and booties, socks, cotton tops, hats, scarves and shawls, arm warmers, jumpers, hoodies, cowls and gloves.
We can do tea cozies, coffee cozies, cup cozies, not to mention knitted or knitted and felted bags (purses), laptop covers, iPod, iPad or mp3 covers, market bags etc.

If you have an idea you want to discuss or a certain pattern you want knitted then just contact us.
Prices will depend a lot on materials used.

Things that I will need to know:
* Colour, texture and size preferences/requirements. I may need you to measure yourself (or the recipient, if not yourself) for items like hats.
* Allergies. If you are allergic to dyes, or to wool, or any other fibre, I need to know in advance so that I can use alternate, hypoallergenic yarn. If I make a project without knowing this, I may accidentally produce an item you cannot use.

Things that you will need to be aware of:
* Time. All of my items are handmade. This means that they take time to make and perfect to the point that I am happy with them. Also, since they will be posted from Australia, they may take some time to get to you. For example, for air mail, two weeks between Australia and the USA is average.

* Money. Postage, in particular, international postage, costs money. I am happy to negotiate whatever postage method you prefer, but I cannot afford to cover the price of postage myself. Postage is additional to the cost of the item made, and will vary depending on weight, destination, and speed of shipping.

*knitting takes time so we'll give you a time estimation when we take on your commission but it may change if materials are hard to get.

If you have a specific date you need the object by let me know and we'll see if we can do it.

*Prices are in Australian dollars. We take Paypal and credit cards through Paypal. If you are in Australia or can do international bank deposits and would rather do it that way then let me know and I'll get the details to you.
You can use XE.com for currency conversions.

*Postage will be from Australia and cost accordingly. We can work with you to find the cheapest option available but airmail can take around 2 weeks and surface mail can take up to three months (though usually nothing like that. Christmas is the only time things get really backed up.

* Due to the cost of materials half the agreed amount will need to be paid up front and the other half plus postage once item is finished. Once full payment is received the item/s will be posted.

Needle Felted Commissions

I am offering needle felted commissions.
Needle felting uses a barbed needle to tangle threads together. Usually done with wool but I have done it with synthetics and other animal fibers too.
All creations are unique and one of a kind. Because of the nature of needle felting nothing can be reproduced exactly.

I create two different kinds of felted objects. There are the 3D sculptures like the teeny sheep or the critters I did for the QLD Flood auction and there is the flat felted stuff that creates an image on a flat surface like sheet felt or fabric.
This can be used to make badges to sew on to clothing or to create an image on clothing itself.
There is also a combination of these two similar to what I did for the Lucas Bear mask. where the mask was knit with wool and the details and shaping was done with needle felting.

The possibilities for needle felted objects are huge.

For flat felting ideas you can check out http://www.urbanthreads.com/ I can buy and felt any image from here. I can do quite fine lines with felting but they wont be quite as thin as stitching. I can also hand embroider any design from there if that's what people want.

For 3D and other flat felting ideas check out Needle felting on Etsy, and these searches on Google images needle felting and needlefelting. I wont copy someone's design exactly but I can do my take on things.

These are my most ambitious needlefelts.

Practical felted things can include jewellery, children's toys (felted food, tea sets, animals are popular), pin cushions, bags, cushions pillow cases with needle felted designs on.

Because of the time taken to create needle felted objects the prices go up according to size and complexity.
The Needle felting on Etsy link can give you some idea of general prices.
Something small like the Pirate Duck patch would cost around $15, the teeny sheep earrings $25, while the 3D dragon or Polar bear would be more like $85 - $150 depending on size and what details you wanted..
